The Parks4Life Series explores Leadership and Innovation in park management with a special emphasis on urban parks and the concept of standards and thus better practice. The Series contains a broad range topics that will be produced in a series of e-books. Each e-book will be stand alone and can be read in totality. They reflect my views on ideas, concepts and insights and are designed for the reader to #RethinkParks and debate ideas.
Parks and especially urban parks are at a critical point as humanity reaches that point of the “megapolis” and where the “grand health challenges” of the four preventable chronic diseases – heart disease/stroke, diabetes, lung disease and cancer. Two of these “grand health challenges” are so dependent on the ability of humanity to have an active life and they are inexplicably linked to the accessibility to parks and open-space.
Even though we are at such a critical point, the challenge is more the way we think about parks and open-space and therefore the challenge is much more about leadership, management and creativity and openness. It is time to #RethinkParks.
